Stimulants
are drugs which increase the function of the central nervous system,(CNS),
which increases energy level, alertness, and physical activity. |

The
category includes coffee, diet pills (over-the- counter and prescription),
cigarettes, cocaine, crack, amphetamines, methamphetamines, over-

Most
street stimulants are illegally produced in underground labs. The
effects of stimulants range from mild to extreme. Effects of illegally

Sedatives
are drugs which depress or slow down the central nervous system, (CNS).
Often these drugs are referred to as tranquilizers, sleeping pills
or depressants. Most sedatives are legally produced and given as a
prescription in controlled amounts. Many of the street sedatives are
altered in underground labs so more profit can be made.
The effects of sedatives range from calming, relieving tension and
muscle spasms, to promoting sleep. Effects of altered street sedatives
may be more unpredictable. At high doses or when abused sedatives
can cause addiction, unconsciousness and/or death. |
